Are your frameworks, models, maturity assessments, and market research reports enabling or curtailing growth?
There is no dearth of information when it comes to how to do something. There is a large industry for such materials, guides, and reports.
We have project mgmt. methodologies, Agile, SAFe, EDM’s DCAM maturity models, Gartner quadrants, and range of best practices. It is good to take in such inputs.
What enables growth vs curtail progress?
How you use these inputs and to what extent, determines success. Use them for what they are, as inputs. Not a bit more. They are not a substitute for talented minds within your company. And I mean that in terms of collective intelligence.
Whenever you hear ‘the SAFe approach does not allow it to be set-up like this,’ or the governance maturity assessment must have all these rankings/scores based on the model’, or ‘these 36 tabs need to be filled in for certifying data elements’, know that your inputs are working against your purpose.
These are meant to establish a starting point. Discard portions you don’t need and add relevant items, make changes. Only you know where you want to go as well as the challenges and opportunities you are working with.
