What is your point of creation? Inspiration or Motivation?
I am not clear on what version of CDO we are in now – 2.0 or 4.0, but the successful data leaders always focus on creating inspiration to drive results versus trying to motivate to take up data/analytics initiatives?
What is the difference?
In the height of regulatory challenges, many CDO programs took the stick approach. “If we don’t do this, the regulators will be after us, the audit team will write NCR’s, etc”..The focus was on motivating business leaders to do something showing the cost of inaction.
I worked with a risk leader who took the approach to inspire. Even though the stick option was available, he decided to paint a picture of improving pricing, profitability, eliminating rework, instilling better controls in the customer-facing systems, effective collection strategies, etc, to gain the support of his peers.
He provided ample air cover but extended a level of autonomy that I could integrate work from other areas, even while using risk’s budget.
Are you identifying the common uses for better data/analytics, no matter who pays for the current project? Winning with data is a long-term program and an inclusive approach is the only way to win – by inspiring
