I thought my resume was good enough – to get the word out, meet with new prospects, and work on exciting projects around data & analytics.
Yes, I know a lot of senior leaders in the field. But that alone is not enough.
I soon found out that the people who knew me directly were willing to create a job role for me, but unable to sign-up a project because it required brand presence.
They do not want to be able to explain to the internal stakeholders about this unknown company (#khyanafi) that they are bringing in, led by an unknown person.
Rather unsure of putting my thoughts out here on #linkedin, I started taking small steps. Most of the discussions we are having are with people who are seeing my posts here and want to know more.
Building your personal brand is important, even if you will be working within corporations. Top talent today wants to know how you are different from everyone else looking to get them into their teams. They are looking for a leader who has something to share, made mistakes, learned from it, and risen through the roles with increasing opportunities and responsibilities.
Everyone has something of value to share, so step up and out and #tellyourstory.
